  1. Thank you for your very informative emails. I live in Yakima, Wa. I also put up a heated feeder for Annas humming bird in the winter. Please keep your emails coming

  2. Hi Scott,
We had a bluebird fly into our house through the front door at 930 last week when taking the trash out. It took almost a half hour to coax it out through the open slider but it was so frazzled. How do we prevent this from happening again? Any ideas? We live in a development, 1/3 acre each house, no trees in yards… Virginia 50 mi South of DC.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

  3. we live in the countryside in upstate NY not far from Elmira, NY. I believe that Roger Tory Peterson lived a couple of hours west of us in Jamestown, NY, my home town. Been watching and enjoying birding for decades.
I made my own feeder on a 4×4 post attached to our deck, which has survived several bear attacks. The only bird we only see occasionally is the bald eagle.
Great to hear from you. Thank you.

  4. Hi Scott,
I got interested in caring for birds from my brother. When he passed 2 years ago, I started taking notice that the birds coming to my backyard seemed hungry. Realizing how many yards were being sprayed for bugs, it made sense that they really were looking for a safe place to eat and that is how I got started. No spraying for insects and the birds realized my yard was a safe place. I’ve been feeding them for 2 years now and am thrilled that they trust me. I had an apple tree cut down a couple years ago and asked that they leave a 4′ stump and so the birds have 3 large platters where I feed them and they love it. Me too!!
This past week temps are -30 & colder so feeding my brood 3-4 times a day. If we humans are going to remove their food supply because we want less insects in our yards, then we humans need to take on the task of feeding them! Loving my new responsibility and appreciate your posts and info very much!
