  1. In Canada that does not look like a Downy Woodpecker. Why do they call that Wood Pecker Red Bellied? He has No red on his belly?

    1. I always get that one wrong. I have never figured it out as to why it is called a Red Bellied Woodpecker & I get Hairy & Downy Woodpeckers mixed up too. I live in Canada as well & my yard is full of the Black Capped Chickadees who chat with me all the time. Really quite tame. I had a thrill this week & had a Northern Cardinal visit my yard. Gorgeous. Always have a Blue Jay who visits regularly & the beautiful little Goldfinches. A visit too from the Ruby Throated Humming Bird. A sweet little Song Sparrow is happily singing in my garden every day.

      1. I didn’t realize you were self replying, and thought ‘jeez that’s kinda harsh’, but it’s so funny seeing that it was you zinging yourself! I hope you exclaimed, ‘Oh I got you now!’ haha

  2. I’m new to CO. We live in Pine. We see hawks, mostly red-tail, eagles, woodpeckers, blue jays, owls (rarely see but do hear them), and a large variety of small birds. I’m a retired elementary teacher. One of my favorite science units was ‘Birds of Prey’. My students dissected owl pellets, and using a silhouette, glued the bones on the guide to recreate the complete skeleton. It was usually my boys who were grossed out. 🤣 I accomplished what I wanted; to get girls interested in science and feel as capable (if not more so) as boys. We still need more women in science and math fields to be great examples for each generation coming. Happy Earth Day!

    1. Laura,
Thank you for having dedicated your career to educating kids! I have so much appreciation for all educators, from Pre-K Teachers to College Professors and everyone in between, for everything you do and have done!

  3. I think above all else I like the songs of the birds & crazy noise they make! Early am in the woodland there are birds that almost scream” agree, disagree “!!Bruce Peninsula Does anyone know what bird they are??( we never saw the birds)

  4. Thre you go, being from Australia & now living in New Zealand, I am not familiar with all the North American birds. 🙂

  5. …we have a couple of Blue Birds that return year after year to their home. they’re named George and Martha

  6. I love all birds but especially the yellow finches and I saw the first one of the season and one year I counted 40 iny yard which was awesome but changing phones I lost that particular picture…ugh

  7. Well, I’m glad I’m considered a ‘Bird Brain’ lol …good to know 😊 But I took the quiz 3 times to finally learn them all!! 😉 We love Birds and so enjoy their lively movements all over our backyard! 🤗

  8. I did pretty well, considering I live in Australia! Got most of them right. And the so-called common names are often, of course, some naturalist’s idea of what they SHOULD be called, to the detriment of what people actually call them.

  9. I’m a bird brain! I’m pretty sure it was meant in a nice way. lol
I got them all! They’re all common to my feeders in Ontario, Canada

    1. Me too, I got them all, I’m in Ontario as well. So we are bird brains it seems. LOL!!
