    1. Get a house cat and your mice problem will be gone, but do not allow the cat to go outside or it will kill the birds and defeat the purpose. Good Luck.

  1. I am new immigrant and enjoy watching birds. Thankful to you and Lord , I am now able to recognise most of birds around me

  2. I never have a problem with squirrels eating the birds food. I put out whole corn (it is really cheap if you buy a large bag) daily for the squirrels (and some birds). The squirrels know where their food is and the birds are happy eating their seed. Many days I would see five
or six squirrels all sitting in a circle contently eating their corn. Sooo cute! I even made a squirrel house and am proud to say that for five years I had the joy of seeing many baby squirrels venture out of that house for the first time. So, give it a try if you haven’t already.

    1. Yay!!! I love squirrels! My kitty & i can watch them play & forage & run up & down trees & telephone lines.

  3. michelle,
If you mix thistle seed, with your feed, you should attract goldfinch and titmouse. to your feeder.

  4. I see all of these except the titmouse and goldfinch at my feeders. The little downy woodpeckers are so fun to watch!

  5. Living in a more rural part of NH and placing hanging feeders made it easy to learn my birds in this area. We had so much bird traffic that every New Years Day the local Audubon Society would count the activity of the songbirds to get an idea of the various songbird populations. I always knew when a Peregrine would stalk the feeder – all of a sudden things got very silent! It was a wonderful site year round. Spring was my favorite when the Orioles would stop for oranges, occasionally an indigo bunting or Scarlett tanager would pop by. I love it here – 25 yrs and counting!

  6. Hi Scott, Nice site. Took a while for me to track it down, saw the newspaper article.

Anyway, Thank you for the sound of the red tail hawk. I do not agree that its a pleasant sound, it’s downright eerie!. Heard it today alot, I got a “screechy” conure and he was out in the house and it shut him up. Good thing we were not outside at the time, he might’ve been dinner, (we go outside, no cage alot) I went out to see what it was,and saw 4 soaring red tail hawks over the course of 5-10 minutes. Prolly 2 mating pair, but man, eerie.

At first I thought they were peregrins, but that sound, no mistake. Your video said you wanted to know if I see these birds, and I do. I live just outside of Trenton NJ, in Yardville.

  7. I’m not a birdbrain but I did get 10/10 I just paid attention in school and actually retained the knowledge…. Thanks that was fun.

  8. I swear I saw a bird that looked exactly like a grackle but had a white head . What is this bird ?????

  9. Obviously I know nothing. But here in Mammoth Cave Ky I make up my own names for them like my Confederate birds and Union and British birds. Of course Red Cardinals and Blu Jay’s and Yellow Canaries etc… cant forget the Hummingbird!

    1. In New Mexico, U.S.A. we often see ravens, which are mistaken for crows, by former Kentuckians, such as myself.

    1. Same here! & chipmunks! They gobble up all the seed so fast that the birds don’t get much! The gray scare away all the red squirrels too

      1. Birds don’t mind Cole’s hot squirrel sauce but squirrels hate it… Have great luck with it and we have way too many squirrels here in central FL , my bird book said birds can’t taste heat … I got mine online as locals were too expensive. BTW it doesn’t take much

    2. Yesterday I was so annoyed with their wholesale thievery, shooing them off the feeder every 5 minutes that i decided to try something different. Having heard that while birds love “hot meats” the squirrels don’t , I sprinkled a little Siracha powder on each perch and a little on the lid. Couldn’t stay to see what happened but when I came back (from buying a more squirrel resistant feeder and some ‘hot meats’ there were no more squirrels only birds! I hope I didn’t cause harm – I have ‘dropper-fed’ 4 week-old baby squirrels abandoned by Mom only handing them over to the local wild-life to continue their upbringing when we were leaving town so I love the little terrorists! In addition we had house sparrows build their nest in my decorative spring wreath on the front door yes months ago, going on to raise the 4 babies while we all used the garage entry. So we love the wildlife that lives near us but please squirrels I can’t keep up with your voracious appetites!

    3. I have a big parrot 🦜 cage in my backyard. The little birds drop in and eat in freedom. I found a cool way to feed the finches and sparrows also wild parakeets.

      1. Love this idea about the bird cage. I assume there are open windows & doors to let them in to feed. Can you explain…do you leave seed in bottom of cage or cups?! Thanks. Love birds! Love nature!

  10. I didn’t remember all of my answers. I would have liked to know how many I actually knew.
