  2. I use to sit and identify with a friend, if I did not know , he would say, “look it up”. I miss those days and my bird book.

  3. Love being tested on my knowledge of the birds. I’ve had the black-Capped chickadee arrive already for the winter. Maybe they are telling me it’s going to be a rough one!!

  4. That was fun! Missed the red-BELLIED woodpecker.. does he really have red somewhere on his belly? We have ladder backs at my school. They are SO FUN to watch, and one actually interacts with us! Had seven hummingbirds at our feeder Sept. 14th.. OBE trying to be the BOSS!

  5. I just seen a yellow bellied Sapsucker in my yard, how do I know? It had a yellow belly, and it was sucking sap…

  7. This morning there was a red shoulder hawk sitting in a dead tree near my house. It made the blue jays nervous so they gathered up all their friends and chased him off. Also I have a special blue jay that sits in a tree near my back door and calls to me to throw him a peanut. I do and he promptly dives down to get it. He comes nearly every day.

  8. Something is wrong with your scoring system. I only missed the two woodpeckers. Yet, it said I only had 5 correct. 😞

  9. I love feeding the birds in our backyard! I know most by name and can whistle for them to come eat! Year before last they were much better at coming, got closer and would let me know that they were hungry! This 2nd group/ year they are more timid. The black capped Chickadees are the friendliest of these. Their parents (or grandparents) were much friendlier, braver and came closer. They are a joy to watch!!

  10. My backyard this AM was 12 Roseate Spoonbills, 11 White Ibis, 2 Osprey, 3 Laughing Gulls, 1 Yellow Crowned Night Heron, 1 Brown Pelican, +++

  11. This was a fun quiz. I love birds but do not know the names of many, so I was happy to get so many correct. I live in Michigan, I just saw a male and female oriole, which surprised me so late in the year!!

Had feeders and attracted so many goldfinch, and cardinals etc. One of our granddaughters is anaphylactic to nuts so can’t put out seeds anymore which usually are all done in same factory as nuts for birds. I have cone flowers in garden and have only liquid sweet fluid feeders for hummingbirds. We also have a bubbling rock which attracts a lot of varieties of birds and chipmunks too!

  14. no, I have been interested in birds at a very young age, and have passed along my knowledge to my children

  18. I think the Black Capped Chickadee in your quiz is really a Carolina Chikadee. Could be wrong, but mistakes are not my forte

    1. Black-Cappeds are fuller and a bit more round than Carolinas, and have buff patches. Carolinas are a bit more slim, and are white, black, and grey w/o any buff.

  19. Nice bird identification quiz. Thanks. Love birds. I got 8 of 10 correct. Missed house sparrow and red-bellied woodpecker.

    1. So did I! I’m not understanding why a red breasted woodpecker in the pictures had a yellow breast! Could they have a show a picture of a yellow breasted wood pecker for verification??
