  1. I would love to learn more about birds and how to identify them. One of our family favorite movies was “The Big Year.” Today I just spotted a beautiful bird outside on our deck and we were all guessing what type of bird it was. We tried to get a picture but it flew away. Oh well, it will be back again some day. It was so cool to take the bird quiz. Maybe next time I can get 10 out of 10. Now I’m excited to learn. If that was your mission; “Mission Accomplished !”

  2. Really should have followed 1st Mind🤓, I second guess Myself would have had to have 8 out of 10 instead of 3🤗, it was still Fun❣️☺️

  3. Where in general do you live? I’m on Edisto Island on the marsh and have a wealth of bird activity in my backyard.

  4. My score is good, considering I have never been to strange and exotic America (and never will I guess). I’m Australian and have only had a few visit to Asia.

  5. Scott,
I have learned so much about birds from reading the articles you write.
They are always so interesting. And I look forward to receiving them.
I took the “Bird Quiz” at the beginning of this email and scored
8 out of 10. That’s due to you and all your informative emails.
I also enjoy your “Live bird cameras” – only thing, I’m usually on-line
later in the evening – not too many hungry birds out that time of day!
Thank you for all your hard work.

  6. I love birds but am at identifying them. I feed birds so have seen many different birds. Your 10 taught me 7. Thanks a lot!

  7. Hey I love how interactive your website is, … I was thinking that some of the pages (the milkweed one is the one I landed on) could do with some updating. I would be happy to help with that for a small fee if you liked. I was thinking that it might be neat rather than pointing people towards amazon to buy seed that you could point them towards native plant nurseries and things along those lines that could help preserve the biodiversity in the areas where people live. 8. Hello Scott.
I do enjoy bird watching Immensely.
However I’m seeing birds that I still can’t identify. I also enjoy all the hummingbirds also. I don’t enjoy the Coyotes at all lol.

    1. Hi Sheila, agree with you totally about the coyotes. Also I do not enjoy seeing nature displaced by housing developments. My area in South Carolina is getting overrun by them. Why our environment is so unimportant in the eyes of those who give the approval to DESTROY natural habitat, I’ll never know.

  9. Thanks for the humbling quiz!
Any selected audobon books or others for my grandkids that just moved from the SW USA to SE Connecticutt?

    1. Kelly, a field guide is a book to help you identify birds (it can be one to identify particular animal, plants, rocks, etc as well) and is small and light enough for you to carry out into the field or wherever you go to look at birds and such.

  10. The cameras were awesome. Helped me note the identifications of the birds in good proximity. Love this. Thankyou

  11. Hello Sott,
I think it’s a good idea with your quiz 😁.
It gives many people who are interested in nature a good introduction to nature and thus orthology.
I live in Germany, in a small village, and have been interested in birds since I was a child.
Unfortunately I cannot offer a live cam online. The upload rate is useless for this.
I have been involved in nature conservation locally for around 35 years and have provided around 350 nesting aids for birds.
During this time I unfortunately noticed that the diversity of species and the number of birds is continuously decreasing!
That’s why it’s absolutely necessary to protect nature and help the birds (animals)!
    Best regards
    Michael

  12. Thank you for this quiz I took. I enjoy birds as I grew up on a farm. I finally found the bird in my front yard I took a photo of and couldn’t find the match to.
All the best in the New year.

  13. Thank you Scott for this happy resource.
I’m a nurse (recently retired) from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
After 3 years of Covid nursing, I’ve found it difficult to find peace and seeing your camera today has brightened my world so much.
    Thank you ☀️❤️

  14. Thanks for maintaining your website and your frequent quizzes. I also enjoy reading your articles and your good advice. I’ve been birding for about 60 years now and am happy to say my granddaughters are showing an interest. I worked for more than 40 years for the National Park Service spend most of my time at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, in D.C. It is the best place for birding in our Nation’s Capital. you can check it out on line. Rangermack

  15. I live in Canadensis, PA, on four acres of property on a mountain ridge. There are hardly any birds to check out, and I became a bird enthusiast on Long Island a couple of years ago. I left feed out and drew seven or eight different species. I hardly ever see birds where I am. Can I draw new birds during the winter in Canadensis, PA? I would appreciate your comments on my question.

    1. Hello Sott,
As a Native New Yorker myself I’m a firm believer that new birds will come. If what they need to survive is plentiful. I’ve since moved to more of a country life. I love Nature especially birds.

      Best Regards,
      Sheila

  16. Thanks for giving me this chance to say ‘ I knew it!’
Still waiting to see a painted bunting pair in these parts.

  17. The person scoring your quiz is messing up.  I took it twice and corrected my errors and still got an 8/10 the second time.  I love seeing the migrating birds who visit my feeding station.  I saw a chickadee the other day and only then realized I hadn’t seen them all summer!
